Here is some non-basketball content I read or listened to this week that I found interesting:
-
Electric vehicles won’t save us — we need to get rid of cars completely - “The electrification of transportation is essential — there is no doubt about that — but just replacing every personal vehicle with a battery-powered equivalent will produce an environmental disaster of its own. Such a strategy also denies us the opportunity to rethink a near-century of misguided auto-oriented city planning.”
-
Amazon to pay California $500,000 for ‘concealing’ COVID cases among workers
-
Don’t “Ban Cars”, Just Ban Cars - “Focus transit conversations on mobility justice for those who can’t afford or can’t use cars, especially to liberal city boards who can regress into conservatives whenever parking comes up. Point out that the public ownership of streets are being monopolized for private, for-profit transportation such as cars. That’ll usually make them think about it at the very least. Circulate carbon maps proving that suburban sprawl areas are our most carbon intensive environments. Most importantly, rather than attacking motorists, which comes off as a form of lifestyle shaming, focus on attacking systems like car dependency instead.”
